According to police, the investigation began in April of this year. During the investigation, police say officers learned that images were being sent, stored and viewed by students at home and while at school. In some of the cases, images were being sent to unknown people who were met in cyber chats that were conducted with social networking programs.

Sending sexually explicit messages or photos between cell phones is known as sexting. Under Ohio law, teens and pre-teens found guilty of sexting can be charged with felonies. That is what some middle school students in Worthington COULD face.

Worthington Police say a 14-year-old boy at Worthingway Middle School took nude pictures of himself on his cell phone. Investigators say some other students got a hold of that phone and forwarded those pictures to other students throughout the school.

Wong says administrators at the school first learned of the photos on Monday and alerted parents Wednesday with phone messages and letters. They also notified some parents by e-mail. The school also made an announcement to students Wednesday.

Additionally, the school told students on Wednesday that any cell phones found would not be returned tothe student at the end of the day, as they were previously. Instead, a parent must come to pick up the phone.

Court documents detailed that nude videos of White were found on the 15-year-old student's phone. The student told school officials that the two did not have sex but that she did send him photographs of her nude.

"Parents of the students involved have been notified and administrators and school counselors are engaged in addressing the potential social ramifications for these students going forward," said Superintendent Marianna O'Connor.

Our Western culture is filled with taboo about bodies. We are taught to view bodies as dirty, shameful, and imperfect. Nudity in art is almost always about the power and beauty of the human body. If we make a big deal of out showing nude works to our students, we feed that troublesome beast. We teach our kids that their bodies are something to be ashamed of and something to laugh at.

Whether Creek students are sending nudes for their own self-indulgent reasons, to fit in with friends or to be liked by their crushes, sending nude photos is a risk that students have to be willing to take.
