Most custom mappings will at least have a TSI file which contains the information TRAKTOR needs to correctly map its commands to a hardware MIDI controller. You will need to install the TSI via the TRAKTOR Controller Manager, which can be found in Preferences.
The mapping is designed as a companion to a primary DJ controller (for this example, the KONTROL S5). Hook up your MASCHINE JAM and you get loads of instant effects buttons, channel routing for all four Decks, and four dedicated pages for both the Step Sequencer and Remix Decks C and D. The mapping also makes use of the Smart Strips for parameter tweaks and scratching, with great use of the fader LEDs as Deck level meters.
Last week Native Instruments rolled out an update to Controller Editor, the desktop application that allows editing of MIDI assignment parameters for all NI controllers. This has been one of the more neglected parts of all the recent hardware updates over the last year and a half, with this version (1.6.2) adding support for editing:
Native Instruments controllers in general need the controller editor to work with MIDI, this is nothing djay Pro specific. Please make sure to initialise the controller before using it with djay Pro and you are good to go
its not working for me, everytime i go to load the file in the controller editor or open it, it just goes back to my regular configuration. all i really want to change on mine is the hot cues, all my knobs work fine
The Electrix Tweaker is a compact and portable performance controller for Traktor Pro 2. This versatile control surface is able to adapt to many situations and applications, whether in the studio, on stage, or in the DJ booth.
For those who like to get more out of their hardware, Tweaker is highly customizable. Whether you want to customize your Traktor setup, or want to use the Tweaker with other MIDI compatible software, the included editor software lets you edit and save all settings on the unit include pad sensitivity, LED ring modes, MIDI note and cc messages, encoder speeds, and more.
When working with the Controller Editor, it is important to understand how pages work. For the pads, there are 8 pages. You can switch between pages by pressing on the one of the group buttons or using the Pad Page menu. There are also pages for the knobs and buttons above and below the LCD screens. You can switch pages there by pressing the left and right buttons to the left of the LCD screens, or by pressing on the Page menu. You can access the page controls from the Pages tab. You can have any number of pages for the buttons and knobs above and below the LCD screens. You can create a new page by going to the Edit menu and selecting New. Just remember that the new pages will share the same MIDI messages as the first page, so you need to change them to different MIDI commands. If you would rather limit the pads to a single MIDI controller, you can press the power button to the right of the Pad Pages section of the Pages tab. This will turn the group buttons into MIDI-mappable buttons.
Do you find the controls available for effects limiting on your set-up? Have you added an external controller to get around this? Care to share any stories or observations with Perry? Please feel free to do so in the comments. 2b1af7f3a8
